Wireless
Printer Buying Tips
If it’s time to buy a new computer printer, you may be astounded
at the wide variety of options available today. How do you choose the right computer printer for your
needs?
First, you’ll need to consider what you will be printing, and how
much you will be printing. If you need to print photos, choose either a photo color printer or a regular inkjet
printer with a high dpi. Dpi controls the resolution of the image you can print; low dpi printers result in
grainy images. Inkjet printers are a little slower than laser printers, but they can produce beautiful color
documents and photographs.
If you want to print many more pages per month, say a thousand or
more, you’ll get fed up with the constant ink cartridge changes needed for an inkjet printer. Instead, choose
a laser computer printer. These can handle large numbers of pages, such as those printed by a small business.
They require a higher upfront cost, but the upkeep in terms of ink costs is much lower.
Consider the cost of ink when buying a wireless printer.
Ink cartridges vary greatly in their price, and the cost catches many by surprise. Do not buy a low-end
printer only to shell out much more in ink cartridges than you would have had you chosen a different
printer.
Many laser printers also print the pages faster than an inkjet
printer; some can offer up to 8 pages per minute. However, this is not always the case, so be sure you check
the page per minute rating to make sure that the printer you choose is fast enough for your
needs.
If you only print photos, and never print documents, consider a
dedicated photo printer. These can be a great option for avid photographers, as they allow you to print from
your computer as well as directly from a digital camera, memory card, or mobile device. Specialized photo
printers will provide the highest quality images available through home printing.
When buying a computer printer, of course we think you should
consider one of today’s wireless all-in-one printers. These offer not only a printer, but also a scanner,
copier, and sometimes even a fax machine. These can be very convenient whether in a home or office setting.
These can also save space and money if you are considering purchasing more than one of these
devices.
